English Heritage as inspiration

In 2002, Tom Dixon established his eponymous designer brand with the goal of reviving the British furniture industry. This talented man of Tunisian origin is a self-taught welder and designer. His design career in the field of lighting began with the huge success of the Jack Light, a multipurpose floor lamp.

In the meantime, the designer label is now known worldwide for its daring designs and respected classics. Tom Dixons' expertise with raw metal has resulted in his many fixtures being recognisable due to the fascinating combination of rugged and refined elements.

Some Tom Dixon classics

The Mirror Ball has become one of Tom Dixon's classics. The spherical lamp has a reflective outer finish like a space helmet. The aim of this design was to create an object that would disappear into its surroundings due to its highly reflective properties. However, this was anything but the case. This lovely design draws really attention to itself!

Another successful collection is the Tom Dixon Beat Light . The lamps in this series are handmade in India and look similar to the traditional copper water jars in the north of India.

Unique production processes

Tom Dixon develops and refines traditional industrial processes to achieve an innovative way of producing stunning designs.

An example is the Etch collection that is made using an etching process. In this process, metal is selectively exposed to acid. The result is a detailed pattern that provides a wonderful shadow show.

The Tom Dixon Melt is the result of vacuum metallisation. This is a reflective lamp with an organic undulating shape that changes completely when you switch it on! Suddenly, a transparent mass appears with glowing and golden accents. The fascinating result looks like a fluid drop of glass.
